Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you wanted to know about cosmetic tattooing is below. For a comprehensive Q&A regarding medical anti aging treatments, please ask us directly, as the TGA has prohibited use of terms such as "Botox" "Dermal Filler" "Biostimulator" etc to be used in media and advertising from 2024. This means that discussion regarding treatment will be limited to in clinic.

At our clinic, safety is our highest priority. All medications are sourced directly from the pharmaceutical company through our prescribing doctor, ensuring complete traceability. This includes detailed records of the exact batch number, the order date, and where and how the medication was reconstituted, as well as by whom.

All treatments are prescribed and overseen by a qualified medical doctor affiliated with Australia’s largest telehealth-based cosmetic injectables provider. We exclusively use TGA-approved products and adhere to best practices in every aspect of our clinic operations.

Following your treatment, you will receive a detailed email containing batch information, post-treatment care instructions, and a scheduled follow-up review. Our commitment to your care extends beyond the clinic, with accessible communication channels and dedicated support hotlines.

Medications are stored in accordance with manufacturer guidelines to maintain their integrity and effectiveness. In addition, we take a conservative approach to treatments, focusing on lower-risk procedures and refraining from higher-risk areas such as the nose and glabella.

With extensive experience, we are proud to maintain an excellent track record and an extremely low rate of side effects. Your safety and satisfaction are at the core of everything we do.

1. Q: What is cosmetic tattooing?

A: Cosmetic tattooing, also known as micropigmentation or permanent makeup, involves the application of pigment into the dermal layer of the skin to enhance or replicate natural features such as eyebrows, eyeliner, lips, or to camouflage scars and other imperfections.

2. Q: Is cosmetic tattooing permanent?

A: While often called "permanent," cosmetic tattoos will fade over time due to skin cell turnover and exposure to environmental factors. Results typically last between 1 to 5 years, depending on the area treated, skin type, and lifestyle.

3. Q: Does cosmetic tattooing hurt?

A: Pain levels vary depending on the individual's pain tolerance and the area being treated. Most clients describe the sensation as a slight discomfort rather than pain. A topical anesthetic is usually applied to minimize discomfort during the procedure.

4. Q: How long does a cosmetic tattooing session take?

A: Sessions typically last between 1 to 3 hours, depending on the area being treated and the complexity of the design. This includes the consultation, numbing time, and the actual tattooing process.

5. Q: What should I do to prepare for my appointment?

A: It’s important to avoid alcohol, caffeine, and blood-thinning medications (like aspirin) 24 hours before your appointment, as these can increase bleeding and sensitivity. Also, avoid sun exposure and any facial treatments a week prior.

6. Q: What is the aftercare process like?

A: Aftercare involves keeping the treated clean, avoiding makeup, sun exposure, and strenuous activities for at least a week. Specific aftercare instructions will be provided based on the area treated.

7. Q: How long does it take to heal?

A: Initial healing typically takes about 7-10 days, during which time the treated area may appear darker and experience light scabbing. Full healing and the final color may take 4-6 weeks to develop.

8. Q: Will I need a touch-up session?

A: A touch-up session is usually required 4-8 weeks after the initial procedure to refine the color and shape. This session ensures the best long-term results and corrects any areas where the pigment may have faded during healing.

9. Q: What if I’m not happy with the results?

A: It's important to communicate your expectations clearly during the consultation. Adjustments can often be made during the touch-up session. If more significant changes are needed, there are options such as color correction or removal. Fortunately, due to his exceptional skill level, Beau's clients are extremely happy with the results and return and become long term clients. Our clients are like our family.

10. Q: Can I still wear regular makeup over my cosmetic tattoos?

A: Yes, you can still apply regular makeup over your cosmetic tattoos once the area has fully healed. Many clients find they need less makeup or can skip certain steps altogether.

11. Q: Are there any risks or side effects?

A: As with any cosmetic procedure, there are some risks, including infection, allergic reactions, or pigment migration. However, these risks are minimized when the procedure is performed by a qualified and experienced professional.

12. Q: Can I get cosmetic tattooing if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

A: It is generally advised to avoid cosmetic tattooing during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to potential risks of infection and unknown effects on the baby.

13. Q: How do I choose the right color and shape for my cosmetic tattoo?

A: During the consultation, the practitioner will assess your skin tone, facial features, and personal preferences to recommend the most flattering color and shape. A pre-drawing will be done to ensure you’re happy before the tattooing begins.

14. Q: How do I know if I’m a good candidate for cosmetic tattooing?

A: Most people are good candidates for cosmetic tattooing. However, those with certain skin conditions, allergies, or health concerns should consult with their practitioner to discuss any potential risks.

15. Q: Will my cosmetic tattoo change color over time?

A: It is normal for the pigment to soften and lighten over time, but it should not drastically change color if high-quality pigments are used and proper aftercare is followed.

16. Q: What is the difference between microblading and cosmetic tattooing?

A: Microblading is a form of cosmetic tattooing specifically for eyebrows, where fine hair-like strokes are created using a hand-held tool. Cosmetic tattooing can include microblading, but also covers a wider range of areas like lips and eyeliner.

17. Q: Can cosmetic tattoos be removed if I change my mind?

A: Yes, cosmetic tattoos can be lightened or removed using laser treatments or saline removal methods.

18. Q: How often should I get my cosmetic tattoos touched up?

A: Most clients return for a touch-up every 1 to 2 years to maintain the color and shape, but this can vary based on individual preferences and how well the pigment retains.

19. Q: Can I have cosmetic tattooing done over an old tattoo?

A: Yes, in many cases, a skilled practitioner can work over an old tattoo to improve its appearance. A consultation will help determine the best approach.

20. Q: Is cosmetic tattooing safe for all skin types?

A: Cosmetic tattooing is generally safe for all skin types, but certain skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, or very oily skin can affect the outcome. It’s important to discuss your skin type with your practitioner during the consultation.

21. Q: How do I choose the right cosmetic tattoo artist?

A: Look for a licensed and experienced artist with a portfolio of their work. Check reviews, ask for recommendations, and have a consultation to discuss your expectations and ensure you feel comfortable with their approach.

22. Q: What is the difference between ombre brows and microblading?

A: Ombre brows create a soft, powdery look with a gradient effect, starting lighter at the front and gradually becoming darker towards the tail. Microblading, on the other hand, uses fine strokes to mimic natural hairs, giving a more defined look. Microblading involves using a blade as the name suggests. This can create scar tissue and heal poorly long term. This is why we prefer the ombre/powder brow technique which is gentle and stimulates collagen.

23. Q: Will my cosmetic tattoo look natural?

A: Yes, when done by an experienced artist, cosmetic tattoos can look very natural. The key is choosing the right color, shape, and technique tailored to your facial features.

25. Q: How do I care for my cosmetic tattoo immediately after the procedure?

A: Aftercare usually includes keeping the area hydrated, applying any recommended ointments, avoiding makeup, and not picking at any scabs that form. Following the aftercare instructions is crucial for optimal healing.

26. Q: Can I exercise after getting a cosmetic tattoo?

A: It’s best to avoid strenuous exercise for at least a week after the procedure to prevent sweating, which can affect the healing process and lead to pigment loss.

27. Q: Can I have cosmetic tattooing if I have had Botox or fillers?

A: Yes, but it’s recommended to wait at least 2 weeks after Botox or fillers before getting cosmetic tattooing to ensure that the final results of the injectables have settled.

28. Q: How will my cosmetic tattoo look immediately after the procedure?

A: The treated area will appear darker and more intense immediately after the procedure. This will soften and lighten during the healing process.

29. Q: Will I need to shave my eyebrows before microblading?

A: No, shaving your eyebrows is not necessary. The artist will work with your natural brow hair to enhance the shape and create a fuller look.

30. Q: Is cosmetic tattooing suitable for men?

A: Yes, cosmetic tattooing can be beneficial for men, especially for enhancing brows, camouflaging scars, or recreating a natural hairline.

31. Q: Can I tan before or after getting a cosmetic tattoo?

A: It’s best to avoid tanning before and after the procedure, as it can affect the skin’s condition and the final color outcome of the tattoo.

33. Q: Can cosmetic tattooing cover up scars or stretch marks?

A: Yes, cosmetic tattooing can effectively camouflage scars and stretch marks by blending the pigment to match the surrounding skin tone.

34. Q: How long should I wait to get a touch-up after the initial session?

A: A touch-up is typically scheduled 4-8 weeks after the initial session, allowing enough time for the skin to heal and the pigment to settle.

35. Q: Can I use skincare products on my face after getting a cosmetic tattoo?

A: It’s best to avoid active skincare products (like retinol, acids, and exfoliants) on the treated area for at least two weeks. After that, you can resume your regular skincare routine, avoiding the tattooed area.

36. Q: What is eyeliner tattooing, and how long does it last?

A: Eyeliner tattooing involves applying pigment along the lash line to enhance the appearance of your eyes. It typically lasts 1-3 years, depending on factors like skin type and lifestyle.

37. Q: Can I get a cosmetic tattoo if I have sensitive skin?

A: Yes, but it’s important to discuss your skin sensitivity with your artist. A patch test may be recommended to ensure you don’t have an adverse reaction to the pigment or numbing agents.

38. Q: How do I know what shape is best for my brows or lips?

A: The artist will analyze your facial structure, bone symmetry, and personal style to recommend the best shape. They will pre-draw the shape for your approval before proceeding.

39. Q: What should I do if I experience swelling or redness after the procedure?

A: Swelling and redness are normal reactions, especially for eyeliner and lip tattooing. Applying a cold compress and keeping your head elevated can help reduce swelling. Contact your artist if you have any concerns.

40. Q: How much does cosmetic tattooing cost?

A: The price is $550 for the first session and $200 for the 5-8 week retouch. Any retouch after this will be the annual retouch price at $350. Although it is called an annual retouch, the name only indicates the recommended frequency however this will differ from client to client based on their individual skin and lifestyle. The price is valid for any time in the future unlimited in time if you are an existing client. Retouches from other artists are the new client pricing.
